Join us at the second Annual BioMed Innovation Night in Sacramento Wednesday, February 8. CHI, BayBio and PwC will host the event at the Memorial Auditorium at 1515 J Street in Sacramento. State legislators, government officials and their staffs will be our honored guests at the event offering excellent opportunities for informal conversation and high-level networking.

At the reception, industry and research and education partners will show interactive displays of their biomedical innovations, allowing legislators and their staffs the chance to touch, feel and see the treatments and technologies being developed here and saving lives in California. The reception will be followed by a dinner featuring keynote speaker Percival Barretto-Ko, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Strategy and Government Affairs at Astellas US LLC. He is involved in Science WoRx, a program to ignite the spark of interest in science in students and teachers.

At the event, we will unveil the CHI/BayBio/PwC 2012 California Biomedical Industry Report. The annual report illustrates the important roles biomedical research, development, and manufacturing play in California's economy and ultimately in the nation's health. The report will provide an overview of employment trends, wages, product development pipeline, opportunities and risks for the industry in California, home to the largest concentration of biomedical companies in the world.

In California, young scientists can pursue a wide range of career choices. However, research shows that not enough students are choosing careers in the sciences, and science teachers require more support to encourage an interest in science among today's students. Science WoRx (www.ScienceWoRx.org) is a mentoring program and online resource network that connects classrooms with scientists to support teachers. The program offers teachers nationwide an online resource portal where science educators can find valuable information on human health and medicine and access resources, including lesson plans and classroom instruction resources, and is designed to ignite the spark of innovation in young scientists and support science teachers' needs in and out of the classroom.
