For a young entrepreneur all the way from Scotland, presenting at BayBio2011 was perfect. There are no life science VCs here, so we need to work so much harder to get our message heard. The ability to pitch our cystic fibrosis story in front of carefully selected VC's helped build those all important relationships, and has allowed us to by-pass months to get in front of them with our proposition. Indeed we secured several follow-up opportunities right at the conference. This is a fantastic event for any young biotech seeking funding.

BayBio's 2011 conference has matured into a conference for all those who can't afford more expensive conferences or don't want to travel great distances only to be lost in the crowd. It is the Goldilocks of biotech conferences - just right.

BayBio2011 provided a great opportunity for us to present to a large audience of our Bay Area peers, meet with prospective partners and expand our network.

As we say at Wells, biggest isn't best, best is best. Well, the conference was not only the biggest but it was certainly the best. The speakers were wonderful, the meetings were productive and the opportunity to talk to so many companies in one place was fantastic. The conference reminded me what BIO's conference used to be - a place where everyone has a voice. We are proud to be a BayBio partner.

BayBio2011 was truly an exhilarating experience. I found the lobby and hallways electric with the networking and sharing of ideas and comments stimulated by the content presented by the plenary session and panel speakers as well as hearing about each others' latest endeavors and ventures. There was diversity in the program elements to keep everyone invested but without losing the connectedness of the attendees that typically happens at the gigantic BIO and larger medical meetings like ASCO.

Most biotechies haven't yet embraced the whole Twitter thing like techies, but I'm starting to see more curiosity in life sciences. I saw it this week, as I experimented by writing about the BayBio annual conference entirely through tweeting…It's an especially great way to monitor what is being said at the conference if you aren't able to attend. I know quite a few of my followers in Boston, for example, were paying attention to the Twitter stream at BayBio… At BayBio, I banged out tweets from keynote talks by Bayer chairman Jorg Reinhardt, panels with venture capitalists like Vaughn Kailian of MPM Capital and Jonathan MacQuitty of Abingworth Management, and even captured a few comments from Pfizer that I'm sure a few entrepreneurs found galling.
