Amr Salahieh,
CEO, Apama Medical

Amr Salahieh, is a successful medical device entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience. He recently raised Series A round of funding for his new company Apama Medical. Prior to Apama Medical Mr. Salahieh founded Sadra Medical (a second generation percutaneous aortic valve replacement company), raised $33 million in financing and led the company to its first in-human milestone. He has served as a board member and adviser to other medical device startups including Arthromed, SquareOne and Trireme Medical Inc. Previously, as VP of R&D at Boston Scientific, he brought the FilterWire EX to the US market. He played an active role in building EPI and in its acquisition by Boston Scientific. He has significant R&D management experience from his engineering consulting firm, Sobek Medical LLC which he sold to EPI, and from both CardioThoracic Systems and Guidant. Mr. Salahieh is inventor/co-inventor of 34 US issued patents and 72 pending patent applications. He holds two degrees, one in Biomedical Engineering and the other in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Jerry Iwata
Senior Vice President
Technology and Life Sciences Division, Comerica Bank

Mr. Iwata has over 18 years experience in structuring and underwriting debt financing to private and public companies. While at Comerica, he has been involved in financing as little as $250,000 to a Series A pre-revenue company, and up to $100 million in a bank debt syndication to a public company to fund acquisitions. He joined Comerica Bank in 2001 through Comerica’s acquisition of Imperial Bank. Mr. Iwata had been part of Imperial Bank’s emerging growth division which was focused primarily on debt financing to venture backed companies. He currently heads the bank’s life science practice in Northern California responsible for lending to venture and public life science companies as well as managing the relationship with life science venture firms in Northern California. Prior to joining Comerica Bank, he spent 10 years at Union Bank where he was a Vice President and Relationship Manager. While at Union Bank, Mr. Iwata was involved in providing growth financing to local and foreign owned companies in various industries.

He holds a B.A in Economics from San Francisco State and M.B.A from San Diego State University.

Leslie Bottorff

Leslie Bottorff joined ONSET Ventures in 1998 after 19 years in the medical industry. At ONSET Ventures, Leslie specializes in medical technology investment opportunities. She has worked closely with several portfolio company entrepreneurs at the seed stage to formulate and validate their companies' business plans, including Embolic Protection, where she was interim VP of Marketing and Business Development at inception. Leslie has served in board or advisory roles for several portfolio companies including Spinal Concepts, Novasys Medical, VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies, Neuronetics, Sadra Medical, CardioMind, Aragon Surgical, Flexuspine and Relievant.

Prior to joining ONSET, Leslie was VP of Sales and Marketing of Medtronic's CardioRhythm division. She has also served in various marketing and sales management positions at both venture backed start-up companies and in large companies, including Nellcor, Ventritex, Menlo Care and General Electric's Medical Systems division.

Leslie has a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She serves on advisory boards or as program faculty at several universities, including Stanford University and Purdue University, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Al Mann Institute at Purdue University.
