National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants fund the research upon which the biomedical industry is built. California's biomedical research centers lead the nation in NIH grants received. NIH and other federal research funds help California’s scientists pursue groundbreaking research that expands the world's scientific knowledge, spearheads tomorrow's disease treatments, and plants the seeds of company formation and job creation that help drive the economy. For decades venture funding has helped to fuel life science entrepreneurs in their drive to engineer life saving diagnostic tools, drug delivery systems, and medical devices. Now, with the venture capital markets frozen solid, more and more companies are looking to the NIH, Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR), Industrial Development Bond (IDB) and other government programs to help them weather the financial storm. A panel of experts will address the current financial situation and discuss how to raise funds from non-traditional funding sources. Panel Moderator:Frank F.
