Advances in HIV Treatments Sponsored by:
![]() With Support From:
There are an estimated 33.2 million people worldwide who are living with HIV or AIDS, with roughly one million of those people living in the United States. Every day, over 6,800 people become infected with HIV - almost five people per minute. And, since the start of the AIDS epidemic, more than 524,000 have died of AIDS in the US alone. The statistics are truly staggering; however medical science has made great progress in recent years in the ability to successfully treat HIV infection. The so-called ‘combination therapy’ prevents HIV from mutating and spreading, allowing patients to rebuild their immune system to the same levels as the general population. To date, it represents the most significant treatment for patients suffering from HIV. Researchers are hopeful that with further study, combination therapy will prove effective in the long-term and will increase the healthy life span of more HIV-infected individuals. In this session, leading Northern California life science companies will discuss their product development efforts, as well as therapies currently on the market, and the impact they have on the treatment of HIV. Panel Moderator:Emily Hua Vice President, Brand Management Practice, Campbell Alliance Panel Speakers: David Anderson Regional Medical Director, Tibotec, a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary John Flaherty, PharmD Director of Medical Affairs, Gilead Sciences, Inc. Marcus Conant, MD Chief Medical Officer, Presidio Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Rick Pesano Senior Director, Medical Affairs, Monogram Biosciences
