- Genencor, a division of Danisco A/S, creates engineered proteins that accomplish the previously impossible and deliver significant value to our customers. Since its inception, Genencor has been the leading innovator in Protein Engineering and Protein Production. Established in 1982 as a joint venture between Genentech and Corning, Genencor’s mission has been to deliver the benefits of Biotechnology to all aspects of human life.
- Genencor commercialized its first Protein Engineered product in 1989. Today Genencor produces and sells more than 4 million Kg of Protein Products per year. These products range from active ingredients for consumer products to enzymes that enable the production of Bio-fuels and the emerging Bio-based economy. Genencor provides custom designed protein products that can meet important needs for our customers.
- From the early 1980’s, Genencor has pioneered the development of high volume / low cost Protein production Systems through Metabolic Pathway Engineering of microbial hosts. The company’s highly efficient “Cell Factories” are capable of producing proteins and other bio-molecules 10,000 times more efficiently than typical pharmaceutical protein production systems.
- Genencor employs approximately 1,200 people. We have Research and Development Laboratories in Palo Alto, California, the Netherlands, Denmark, and China. Genencor operates ten manufacturing centers in the United States, Argentina, Belgium, China, and Finland. Our large and efficient organization enables us to deliver protein products at any scale to customers around the world. Revenues for Danisco's Bioingredients division for fiscal year 2006/07 exceeded US $ 900m.
