Tom Smart is Vice President of Business Development at XOMA, LLC, is responsible for leading XOMA's licensing and collaboration initiatives. Prior to joining XOMA, Tom served on GenVec, Inc.'s senior management team, most recently as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and was responsible for directing the company's business development, intellectual property and contracting functions. Prior to his tenure at GenVec, he held various business development and strategic planning positions with several biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, including G.D. Searle (now Pfizer), Cell Genesys, Inc., and Genetics Institute, Inc. (now Wyeth). Mr. Smart also currently serves on the Board of Directors of Acologix, a privately held biopharmaceutical company located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mr. Smart received a Bachelor of Science in the biological sciences from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration in finance and marketing from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
