Despite powerful institutional barriers and obstacles, a revolutionary shift in healthcare practices is coming -- a shift away from acute care and toward medical practice geared to the “wellness” of an aging population. This proposition has been taken almost as an article of faith among forward-looking participants in the biomedical community ever since the advent of the genomics revolution. Yet by all accounts, mature personalized medicine is still at least 20 years away.

An important study by a team at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Business has recently been released which examines the underpinnings of personalized medicine, and trenchantly poses the question of how biomedical and healthcare delivery companies can speed up the process and capitalize on the business opportunities that the new approach to medicine presents.

Our breakfast program is inspired by the Kellogg School report, which was underwritten by the New York Stock Exchange. The program will feature experts from the business and venture capital communities, and from the Kellogg School, who will discuss the Kellogg thesis: that industry players will have to adapt to profound demographic, political and technological shifts in order to compete successfully in a world transformed by forces of globalization. Panelists will examine critically the report’s forecast of new business models likely to emerge and prevail in the coming years.

The discussion will provide unique insights on the future of the biomedical industry to companies, research institutions, and the investment community. We will make available the Kellogg Report at this meeting.

Hosted by new BayBio member, the New York Stock Exchange, this breakfast event will be held at the NYSE Group office in Palo Alto.
